The centre provides primary health services to the people of Badu Island as well as support staff to the primary health centres on Moa Island and Mabuiag Island.
The centre’s staff consists of clinical nurse consultants, a generalist health practitioner, an advanced health worker and a senior health worker. The selection of ‘cluster’ staff include a doctor, child health worker and a coordinator. The cluster staff are based at Badu Island and service the centres of St Pauls and Kubin on Moa Island and Mabuiag Island. Staffs are on call for after hours emergencies.
A number of visiting services are available to the centre including:
- breast screening
- women’s health
- Royal Flying Doctors Service
- renal services
- social and emotion health
- family support
- dietetic and nutrition services
- young peoples health and
- dermatology services
The centre also has teleconferencing available for people with mobility problems.

Mura Badhulgaw Ngurpay Lag (Badu Campus), part of the near western cluster in the Torres Strait, offers education from Pre-Prep to Year 7 to just over 200 students.
Language and culture and Identity form the foundation on which the campus is built. Every student receives at least one hour focused traditional language tuition each week and every year the campus hosts a whole community traditional dance display.

Badu Island has a local Immigration Officer based on the island who is responsible to ensure people are authorised to travel across Australia's borders and to deter or prevent those who try to enter Australia illegally.

All the Land and Sea Rangers work within their community to ensure the sustainable management of:
- Dugong and Turtle populations and habitats
- Coastal erosion and pollution
- Culturally important places
- Weeds and feral animals
- Traditional Ecological Knowledge
- Indigenous Protected Areas.
The Rangers program is funded by TSRA and employs 4 Rangers and 2 Senior Rangers.

Island & Cape have a shop based on Badu Island and specialise in the distribution of food and goods to the remote areas and the indigenous communities. They open 7 days a week.

The company began its trading from 1 January 2010 when it was granted the liquor license for the Badu Hotel. In late June of 2011, TSIRC divested to BIF the Tama Mudh Motel, Badu Quarry and Service Station. BIF is also holding management rights of the Rural Transaction Centre.

Tama Mudh Motel (Badu Motel) is managed by BIF. The motel has 5 rooms and also has a shared kitchen facility with guest laundry. A fully self-contained 2 bedroom house is also offered for guests requiring longer stays.

The Badu Island Hotel is a licensed establishment managed by BIF and employs a Hotel Manager, Duty Manager and 4 casual bar staff/cleaners. All staff have completed their Responsible Service of Alcohol training.
BIF - Quarry
Quarry
The primary market for quarry product is the sale of aggregate in pre-mix form for concreting purposes to Torres Strait Island Regional Council (TSIRC) the Building Division. This material is shipped around the Torres Strait Island communities managed by Council in “bulk bags”.
Daily activities are managed by the Business Manager and supported by the Leading Hand. Consultancy and Project Management for quarry operations is provided by Mr Richard Ryding of Richard Ryding Earthmoving Contractor for drilling and blasting. Padrino Pty Ltd, Mr Glen Jacobs provides quarry management services.
BIF - Service Station

The service station supplies all fuel and LPG gas needs to Badu Island with the exception of diesel for power generation which is imported directly by electricity supplier Ergon Energy.
Currently the supply demands approx. 200,000 litres of diesel and 180,000 litres of unleaded petrol per annum. As well, the business supplies small engine fuel and oils, gas supplies and runs a stock of service station products including some fishing gear stocks to cater for consumer needs especially at the weekend.
The business has a secure business and growing market as more and more people on the island are acquiring motor vehicles and outboard motors.
The service station employs a Service Station Manager.

Once a week Sea Swift vessels delivers vital supplies and services to Badu Island through maritime transportation. BIF is the Sea Swift Agent on Badu Island.

TSI Regional Council
Torres Strait Island Regional Council
The role of the council is to decide on the facilities and services and to make local laws.
Traditionally councils have provided services such as roads, water and waste but now more and more councils are involved in social, economic and cultural development and improving the liveability and sustainability of their region. Unlike most local councils, the TSIRC is in charge of fifteen separate communities, each with their own unique characteristics and service requirements.
